Joel Chandler Harris grew listening to old folk tales which certainly lend a hand to shaping up his future. As an adult, Joel Chandler Harris became a newsman in Georgia but also wrote and published one of the most well-known fictional characters in American history, Uncle Remus. As to those who are not familiar, Uncle Remus is an old, wise, and kind black man living in post Civil War America. He tells fables and adventures by Br’er Rabbit and Br’er Fox. What made this series of stories standout is how it helped push forward black culture in America in a time when equality is still starting to gain its balance.

While some of the words used in this series may not pass for being politically correct nowadays, it is still an important aspect of literary history that we should never forget. It comes not only with fun and exciting tales but also important values that society today could really adhere to.
