11-22-63: A Novel Audio Book Summary:
Stephen King dabbles in the notion of time travel in this nail biting thriller that is about to be released as a mini-series starring James Franco. On the fateful day of November 22, 1963 three gunshots were heard leaving one President dead and the whole world changed in a flash of chaos and panic.
What if you have the chance to change the course of history? Jake Epping is an English teacher in Lisbon Falls, Maine. Sometime later, his old friend Al tells him an outrageous story. Al claims that the storeroom in his local diner can transport you to the past, specifically a day in 1958. Al then convinces Jake to undertake a mission that has been Al’s lifelong obsession, to prevent President Kennedy’s assassination.
Jake now begins his life as George Amberson in a world completely different from what he is accustomed to. Armed with what he knows from the future, Jake will try and change the course of history but to where it will lead he has no idea. Will he be able to succeed in this monumental undertaking or will he lose himself in the process? A man out of time and out of place, Jake must decide if changing the past is worth the risk of changing everything in his present.
One reason to listen:
Stephen King puts his own twist to the time travel genre and it has never been more suspenseful with more risks than rewards in front of the protagonist.

Reactions:
“The ending is not predictable (if you say you saw it all coming you are either lying or should be a best-selling novelist) and is surprisingly satisfying. To those who say King doesn’t know how to end his novels, I say, read this one.” – James Tepper

“The ideas of this novel are pretty compelling, and it’s not surprising that others have explored them. Reading the two so close together made for an interesting counterpoint, and did disservice to neither.“– Susan Tunnis

“On the whole I usually review books based on how well spent I feel my time was in reading it and I am in no way disappointed in this one.” – William E. Liberatore

“The point is that Mr. King had something to say about time travel, about the kind of fear peopled lived with in the 60s, about owning up to your actions and facing the consequences..and he did it in a way that was vastly entertaining, the boring middle section notwithstanding.” – C. Young

“Great premise ruined by the author’s desire to overwhelm us with the past and the details of an interetsing time traveller.” – David M. Sherman
