While his personal life is still at shambles, his career is taking the opposite direction when his unit at the hospital just got named the number 2 best in the country. However, things change when they admit a new patient, a seventeen year old with OCD named Max.
Max’s life is already full of stress and the only thing that keeps him from breaking is a mental ritual that he has to do every fifteen minutes, but when the girl that Max loves is found murdered he suddenly disappeared. Dr. Parrish goes out of his way to find Max but it seems that whoever murdered the girl just got his sights on the doctor.
Slowly, his career is getting derailed and it appears as if someone is systematically destroying his life one brick at a time. Will Dr. Parrish be able to unravel the mystery surrounding these attacks on himself or will he find it too late to do anything?

Reactions:
“Be prepared, as this interesting novel gets off to a slow start in the first quarter of the reading. But that’s Okay. It is setting the stage for the remainder of the book where the action and intrigue takes off like a rocket.” – Robert Steven Thomas

“I love Lisa Scottoline, and have read every one of her books. But this one was too obvious. If you eliminated suspects by the process of deduction( I.e. Who COULD have done all this nasty stuff) there is really only one candidate. I guessed less than half way through, and was correct. I do like the lawyer Paul, though, and hope she brings him back.” – E. Jacobs

“Great plot and clear voice; loved the twists. The characters were well written. Also, I would recommend this book wholeheartedly.” – RBW “CW”

“I always look forward to Lisa’s next book. She definitely keeps me on my toes. I thought I had this mystery figured out but I didn’t. She has a way of twisting the plot and you find out people you thought were good are evil and people you thought were evil weren’t. Wow!” – Robin Bonar

“With red herrings abound, Scottoline’s novel will keep you guessing as you rush to the very last page! On top of being a great psychological thriller, the amount of research Scottoline on mental health issues and the nature of psychiatric care shines through in an impressive manner.” – Casey Marie
