Food: A Love Story Audio Book Summary:

Comedian Jim Haffigan’s first book, the best seller Dad is Fat poked fun at his personal experiences of being a father. This time however, he takes a shot at what really matters and something that is close to the hearts of most Americans; food. From McDonalds to Hot Pockets, none is safe from his criticism and sense of humor. Prepare to hear what Haffigan thinks about coconut water, why pretzels are among the most important discoveries of mankind and the question that all food lovers want answered, which is tastier: pork, beef or chicken? Find out the answer to these life questions and more with Food: A Love Story.

One reason to listen:
This is a hilarious dive into the mind of Jim Gaffigan as important issues run through his mind, all of which are food related.

Reactions:

“Jim Gaffigan has done it again. What a great book. I found this very funny and heartwarming. I would never be afraid to buy anything that had Jim Gaffigans name on it. I am from Wisconsin and listened to this book with a brat in one hand and some sharp cheddar in the other.” – K. Shoemaker

“Lightweight observations surrounding most anything related to what you put in your mouth. Very enjoyable!” – Andy

“Do not let the title mislead you: this is NOT an erotic cookbook. In the entire oeuvre, there is only one recipe; though, mercifully, it is for a very sexy hot dog. Hilarious!” – Christine

“This book misses the punch and pace of “Dad is Fat” – which I loved. It needs to have more zingers, less rambles. Maybe this was too broad of a topic for a 7+ hour book. I will listen to Jim Gaffigan again, but hope for a better result.” – Margaret

“If you are going to read a comic’s book, you should get the audiobook if they are narrating. Comics understand delivery, even if they are not professional narrators. There were a few places where it was clear that Gaffigan was reading, but most of the time the delivery was good and more similar to a stand up show than a narrated book. That is also part of why I did not enjoy the book (and Dad is Fat) as much as I thought I would. Yes, there were lots of funny moments. And I still definately recommend it if you are a Gaffigan fan. The problem is that Gaffigan is a comic, not a writer. As a comic he is focused on one liner and short funny stories. So the book really wasn’t structured as a whole. It all loosely connected around the theme of food. (And Gaffigan is good talking about food.) But it lacked cohesion.” – Adam Shields
