Lady Anna by Anthony Trollope (Free Audio Book)
Lady Anna by Anthony Trollope – A free audiobook
Read by Simon Evers
Lady Anna was an extremely controversial novel when it was first released in 1874 as it challenged the current era’s politics and social inequality that raised the ire of the elite of society. Trollope himself considered Lady Anna to be his best work.
Lady Anna tackles the issues of enforced marriages that were prevalent during times. The story starts with Countess Lovel as she tries to justify her claim to her title and her daughter Anna’s legitimacy to the lineage after her husband reveals that he already had a wife before her. Mother and daughter will eventually be put at odds when Countess Lovel tries to wed Anna to her cousin who is her father’s heir to the title. Anna defies her mother as she fell in love with a young journeyman tailor named Daniel Thwaite. This is an intense and power free audiobook that puts in question the era’s culture and how freedom is basically an illusion during Anna’s life.
