Light in August Audio Book Summary:
Faulkner’s Light in August is classic novel in the realm of American literature. His story bears a strong message that is as impactful as you would expect from an accomplished author such as Wiliam Faulkner. Light in August is one of his finest works and is certainly one of the most difficult to adapt into another medium like audiobooks. Fortunately, Will Patton was able to rise to the occasion to deliver one of his best performances to date. Light in August is a well acted audiobook of an intricately written story. It may even be a better listen than a read thanks to Patton’s exceptional performance.
The story introduces Lena Grove, a woman who is on a journey to find the father of her still unborn child. As she sets on to look for Lucas Burch, her path crosses with Byron Bunch and as their friendship grows deeper Byron finds himself caring for the Lena with such passion that it puts him in a difficult position as he knows they can never be together. Hoping to find guidance, Byron meets with Reverend Gal Hightower for advice but the reverend is in the midst of personal turmoil that leads Byron to find Hightower locking himself in his own home, fearful of the outside world and haunted by his memories.
William Falukner tackles the themes of race, religion, morality and redemption in this classic tale. Now available in audiobook form, Will Patton carries the story with his clear and smooth voice and definitely enhanced the overall impact of the story.
One reason to listen:
Will Patton creates one of the best performances of his career and no better canvas to put it forth than with the classic tale of human emotion, Light in August.

Reactions:
“Excellent. What can you say about one of the best authors in the world? Lovely web of nature and a good plot that runs through the background of the post civil war era, great insights and a real joy to savor….” – L. Sutherland “Southernmatrix” http://www.amazon.com/review/R2RG6GNNYT0VU4/
“Difficult book to understand. I love Faulkner but his prose in this novel was overdone. I became disenchanted with his characters. If one wants to be depressed, this is the novel to read.” – Luceta Kallis

“Faulkner was one of our great writers. This story is more readable than some and is well worth the time to read a work that has stood the test of time. The characters are appealing, the story is very rich in detail and drama, and the writing is beyond reproach.” – Linda Catlett

“I love Faulkner, but some of his stuff is so difficult to read. You can always hear the music in the words and see the characters, but the overall plot in novels like The Sound and The Fury can be difficult. This is a more accessible novel, but lacking nothing.” – John

“I enjoyed his performance in Armageddon but nothing compares with his brilliant reading of this book. He got all the nuances right and made all of the characters live and breathe for me.” – Sleepy in Seattle
