Shocked: Adventures in Bringing Back the Recently Dead Audio Book Summary:
Death has always been the perceived and accepted finality of life. But as we move forward as a society and the advancements that science and technology has achieved in the last century, is it possible to finally circumvent death? Dr. David Casarett aims to delve deeper the study of the human body and discover how we can turn death into just another simple health problem that can be “treated”. Dr. Casarett’s studies were inspired by the case of a young girl named Michelle Funk who was pronounced clinically dead for about 3 hours before being resuscitated by doctor. Funk was a two year old girl who “died” of drowning in a creek. She was underwater for over an hour before being discovered by rescue personnel. But a miracle happened when after 3 hours of persistent work by doctors and nurses, they were able to bring the little girl back to life. If someone can be brought back after being pronounced dead for 3 hours then how about bringing back someone who was dead for 6 hours? 12 hours? 24 hours? Maybe someone who was frozen for thousands of years?
With how medical science is advancing today, doctors might finally be able to crack the code on immortality.
One reason to listen:
An interesting read for anyone interested about the question on life and death and how medical technology might be scratching at the surface of granting immortality, or at the very least, bringing back someone from the dead.

“Dr. Casarett has done an amazing job of searching the history of resuscitation, going back to original works of the drowning society in London. Really well written, and for me a great work, with references.” – Dr. Ronald K. Wright

“I work in EMS and teach frequently. Resuscitation and ethics are regular topics. Shocked was fun reading, providing lots of history, insight, and thought provoking material, mostly serious, but with a perfect mix and treatment of unique (if not absurd) practices.” – Dave S.
