Aurore Dupin was known for contradicting the behavior expected from women during her time and was also known for her numerous romanitic liaisons one of which was with Frederic Chopin.
The Devil’s Pool was first published in 1846 and is one of her short novels that draw from her experiences as a child. The novel tells the story of a widower named Germain as she sets out to remarry in order to have someone help her raise her three young children at the behest of her father-in-law.
