Narrated by Librivox Group

The Gilded Age was written by Charles Dudley Warner and Mark Twain and was originally published in 1873. While not one of Twain’s more popular works, it is still an important part of American literature and has since gone through 100 editions since its first publication.

The Gilded Age: A Tale of Today is a satirical look at post-Civil War America. During that time, political corruption and greed were at an all time high and the term “gilded age” that was given to that era was actually taken from this book. The Gilded Age has now been synonymous with issues about graft and corruption. The term gilded itself perfectly embodies society of that time, gilding is merely painting a thin layer of gold over a base metal which pretty much gives it an appearance of extravagance yet the truth is quite the opposite.

This free audiobook is narrated by a full Librivox cast.
