The Girl with All the Gifts Audio Book Summary:

Deep inside a research facility a little girl sits alone in a room. Her name is Melanie and she is a very special girl. Dr. Caldwell calls her “little genius” and every morning she waits for someone to take her to her class. The door opens at the exact same time everyday and she is always greeted by three men. The Sergeant will always be greeting her with the barrel of his gun while two of his men strap her down to a wheelchair.

Melanie tries to have idle conversation with them but they never speak a word and behind their stone faced expression, she feels a hint of fear. But she will not resist because she loves school. She hungers for knowledge and the world outside this place. She speaks with her teacher all the time during class, she tells her of all the things she will do once she grows up. However, it always puzzles Melanie that her teacher, Miss Justineau, appears sad whenever she talks about her future.

What is Melanie and why is she being held in this high security prison. Is she a threat or just an innocent girl?

One reason to listen:

The Girl with all the Gifts is an amazing paranormal thriller that will have you at the edge of your seat after every revelation.

Reactions:

“Love this audiobook! Great book and I love the narrator! My 13 year old and I listened together and both enjoyed it. The language is sometimes a little rough at times…f word etc. it’s not gratuitous cursing. It’s used appropriately to serve a literary purpose, but for those who are sensitive…” – Kit “powellka”

“It’s a horror story. But not really. It’s a fantasy. But then, no not really. There is certainly love there. And loss. And some stand out scene setting. And a heck of a lot of jaw dropping moments. And don’t start reading it just before bed time. You won’t sleep. For various reasons…” – Liz Wilkins

“The Girl with All the Gifts starts out so strongly, and I thought that there was no way the story could maintain this pace. I was wrong, because the latter part of the book was even better. It affected me so much that it took a little while before I could even pick up another book. But was it the right decision? I think so, but that doesn’t mean that I was emotionally prepared for it.” – Inspiring Insomnia

“I bought it because I’d hastily seen one comment from a reviewer stating if you only read one book this year, let it be this one. I had no idea it was about zombies, mutants and the quest for survival. I hate the Walking Dead and so I was immediately disappointed. But the author has a good way of delivering the story and I found myself relatively engaged throughout.” – Sangitha

“I almost gave up on it, and ended up sticking it out. I’m glad I did. I really like the dynamic of Melanie and Ms. Justineau. The antagonist is also well written. And I was just plain old curious how it would resolve. To be honest, I was disappointed with the ending. I think there’s critical gap in logic.” – DLK88
