The novella itself was significantly different from what Eliot was known for as the story of The Lifted Veil focused more on the paranormal, a first for Eliot who usually wrote stories grounded in reality. The Lifted Veil tackles notions of the paranormal and life after death. It centers on characters that has heightened perception of the so-called otherworld and also suggest on the importance and power of fate in one’s life.
