This is the audiobook edition of the book written by Cat Warren. Warren is a university professor and former journalist who have developed a fascination with quite a niche kind of hobby. You see, Warren and her German Sheperd dog, Solo, has made a career out of searching for dead bodies. Solo is what you call a cadaver dog. Warren initially started training Solo to help manage his almost limitless energy and gusto. This in turn opened the doors for Warren and Solo that lead them into the world of working dogs, the trainers and the handlers.

Solo is part of hundreds of thousands of working dogs that are active in the United States alone. Warren takes a closer look at the fascinating lives working dogs and their handlers live. From cadaver dogs, tracking and apprehension and drug and bomb sniffing dogs, Warren studies the rigorous training and exercise these dogs go through in order for them to harness their natural skills to the fullest. While to the layman these dogs appear to have amazing, bordering on magical talents when it comes to locating objects it is thanks to Warren’s studies that we are shown that it is a combination of both talent and discipline.

Warren conducts interviews with various experts ranging from psychologists, historians and forensic anthropologists to trainers and handlers who with these skilled working dogs at a daily basis. Warren shows the intricate relationship based on trust and respect that handlers have with their working dogs.
