Narrated by: Peter Bobbe
The Portrait of a Young Artist as a Man was James Joyce first novel. It follows the story of Stephen Dedalus who is the fictional alter ego of James Joyce himself. Stephen Dedalus is a character that is actually an allusion to the Greek craftsman, Daedalus.
This audiobook edition revolves around Stephen Dedalus during his formative years to adulthood and his self discovery as well as his religion/philosophical awakening. As a young man, Stephen would often question his Catholic and Irish upbringing which would eventually lead to his exile as feels that his country and its religion is limiting his artistic merits. Thus, Stephen Dedalus escapes the chains of his society in order to fully understand himself as not only an artist but as a human being and where his place in this world would be.
This is a classic tale of growth and learning both the harsh and beautiful realities of life and turning all of it into a positive learning experience.
