Allan and the Holy Flower by H. Rider Haggard – A free audiobook

Narrated by laineyben

Allan and the Holy Flower is part of the popular series of adventures by well-known fictional professor Allan Quatermain and his adventures in Africa. Written by H. Rider Haggard and first published as a novel in 1915, it was initially a serial in The Windsor Magazine. The story starts off when Allan meets up with his old friend Brother John with the latter confiding to him a rare orchid of such beauty and size that none in the world can compare to it. Curious about this possibly new discovery Allan went back home to England where a wealthy orchid collector named Mr. Somers is willing to finance the expedition in order to find this rare plant in Africa, and thus begins another adventure of the famous Englishman as he scours the continent where his heart truly lies to find the legendary orchid.

This is but one of the myriad of adventure stories featuring the famous explorer and is one of the best introductions to the character for unfamiliar fans. This free audiobook is read by laineyben who is able to capture the strong will and astuteness of Allan Quatermain quite impressively. Allan and the Holy Flower is a great listen for those who love classic adventure tales that stick close to reality but sprinkles in some of that much needed wonder to create a memorable tale.
