Allan Quatermain by H. Rider Haggard (Free Audio Book)

Allan Quatermain

Allan Quatermain by H. Rider Haggard – A free audiobook

Narrated by John Nicholson

This is the second novel of the titular character as he once again travels Africa in search of legends and adventure. Allan Quatermain may have been born in England but it was clear once he set foot in Africa that this is where he truly belongs. The story begins when Quatermain along with some of his closest confidants becomes tired of the dull life the lead in England and remember about an old legend they once heard telling of a hidden kingdom in the heart of Africa. They decide that they should try and find this kingdom and thus begins Allan Quatermain’s adventure towards his destiny.

There are 18 adventures featuring the intrepid explorer with King Solomon’s Mines being the first one with this one as the sequel. Quatermain’s other adventures are set in various points of time with really no clear chronological order as some contradict each other. However, this does not take away the fact that the Allan Quatermain character is one of the most enduring names in adventure fiction and is most likely the precursor to classic adventurer protagonist to come. H. Rider Haggard writes the novels in the point of view of Quatermain giving it a journal-like feel. John Nicholson does a commendable job of narrating the story and captures the wit of Quatermain handedly. This is a classic adventure tale in audiobook form for old school fans of the genre.
