Call of the Wild by Jack London

Call of the Wild by Jack London – A free audiobook

Narrated by Librivox Group

This is the free audiobook edition of the novel, Call of the Wild. This novel was commonly mistaken as being a children’s book due to the fact that the main character is a mix breed of a Collie and a St. Bernard but writer Jack London never intended this to be a children’s story. In fact, the story is quite mature and deals about the harshness of life, loss, love and loyalty.

The story focuses on Buck, the St. Bernard/Collie mix who gets abducted and sold as a sled dog in Alaska. It was tough for Buck who was suddenly thrust into the harsh and unforgiving natural elements but with his strong will he was able to overcome all the challenges that were laid before him. Soon enough, he was taken in by a kindly man who treated him not as a tool or a slave but as a pet and friend. Unfortunately, it was short live as his kind hearted master was killed.

Buck then follows the call of the wild when he discovers a pack of wolves. He must now prove his worth not only to this pack of noble creatures but also to himself.
