Gulliver’s Travels by Jonathan Swift – A free audiobook

Narrated by Lizzie Driver

Gulliver’s Travels is a satire written by Jonathan Swift. This is his satirical view of human nature and a parody of the traveler’s tale subgenre that was quite popular during his time. Gulliver’s Travels instantly became a hit when it was published as it gave new life to a genre that is already being diluted with similarly written stories.

The story centers on protagonist Lemuel Gulliver, a surgeon and family man residing in Nottinghamshire. Lemuel Gulliver always had a love for travelling distant lands and during one of his travels he will get far more than what he bargained for. As he sets out to the South Seas for another typical journey his ship gets caught in a ferocious thunder storm where he gets shipwrecked and washed up on an unknown land. Soon, he gets introduced to the inhabitants of this unfamiliar island. The Lilliputians who populate the island are quite different from us. Different is an understatement as they are only 6 inches tall. As they capture Gulliver while he was unconscious they carry him up to their city where they kept him chained outside the city wall. He soon befriends the people of this island but soon find out that not all welcome his arrival.

Gulliver’s Travels does not end here though. He has many more travels to various fantastical islands that will sure to delight adventure story enthusiasts. Be sure to grab this free edition copy of Gulliver’s Travel read by Lizzie Driver, you will not be disappointed.
