In the High Valley is written by Susan Coolidge and is the fifth and last book of her popular “What Katy Did” series. The free audiobook edition of In the High Valley starts off with Lionel Young and Imogen, his sister, setting out towards the High Valley which is a breathtaking land they heard so much stories about and leaving their hometown of Devonshire, England.

Arriving in their destination, Lionel turns his eyes on Geoffrey Templetowe’s cattle business and plans to buy a share of the business. Lionel is quick to adapt to the American way of life which could not be said for his sister. Imogen. Imogen has a prejudice against America which makes it difficult for her to accept this vastly different culture from which she grew up in.

We also find that Clover Templestowe, now a happily married woman living in High Valley is the neighbor of Lionel and Imogen which puts her at odds with Imogen at the get go. Later on, we will get reunited with Rose Red once again and find out what happened to the rest of the beloved cast of characters such as Cousin Helen and Katy. This is a great ending to the series that managed to end each character’s story arc in a perfect circle.
