King Coal by Upton Sinclair (Free Audio Book)

King Coal by Upton Sinclair

King Coal by Upton Sinclair – A free audiobook

Narrated by Michelle Harris

This is the free audiobook edition of the novel, King Coal that was written by Upton Sinclair and was first published in 1917. The story takes a candid look and exposes the horrendous working conditions that coal miners had to endure in the 1910’s. Sinclair comes from a socialist point of view which is evident with his previous work, The Jungle. In King Coal, he transfers his beliefs to a single protagonist named Hal Warner. Warner is inadvertently thrown into the tyrannical system of the American capitalist system in which the common man is nothing but a cog in the colossal mining industry that can easily be replaced and is completely expendable.  The story of King Coal is actually based upon the Colorado coal strikes that occurred from 1914 to 1915. King Coal is narrated by the talented Michelle Harris.
