Letters on an Elk Hunt by Elinore Pruitt Stewart – A free audiobook
Narrated by Lynne Carroll
Letters on an Elk Hunt is ELinore Pruitt’s sequel to Letters of a Woman Homesteader wherein Elinore Pruitt details her experiences during the early years of the 1900’s in Burntfolk Wyoming. In this journal, Elinore tells of her experiences to her friend, Mrs. Coney who resides in Denver. She tells of a fascinating journey on horseback and on a wagon through the Wyoming wilderness.
Elinore travels the lands of Wyoming with her husband, three of their oldest children and their neighbor Mrs. O’Shaughnessy. Accompanying them are the organizers of the titular hunt, Mr. Haynes and Mr. Stuble along with physician Dr. Teschall, a film-maker Mr. Harkrudder, Professor Glendholt and his two students who are looking for a prehistoric behemoth’s bone.
While the trip is mainly about hunting, Elinore focused her writings on the beautiful and still untouched land of Wyoming. Letters on an Elk Hunt paints a perfect picture of a time when the normal form of travel is still through horsebacks and wagons. It is a far simpler time and an era when the beauty of the wilderness is prevalent. Elinore Pruitt dots down a captivating journal about life in the early 1900’s.
