Is Everyone Hanging Out with Me is a hilarious look into the thoughts of Mindy Kaling; from what makes a great guy, to what is the perfect amount of fame? All these questions and more are answered by Mindy in her signature wit and humor.
The audiobook is narrated by Mindy Kaling herself along with Michael Schub and she invites listeners to take a glance of her personal and professional life while she observes and analyzes questions about love, friends, family and Hollywood while giving conclusions that can only be made with Mindy’s sense of humor.
Reactions:
“As a HUGE fan of The Office, I was super excited to read this book. I already had the eBook when I saw that Mindy Kaling had actually narrated the audiobook version herself. (so cool! Lol) Anyway, it was exactly what I had expected it to be. She is super funny and honest-feeling. It was also smart with some awesome references!” – Tabitha
“I love it when interesting, funny, & fabulous people write a great book . . . and then narrate it! Getting Mindy’s narration and inflection in my head for 4 and a half hours was just that much better than reading the book.” – Brownyn
“Being 50-ish, ‘relate’ would not come into my experience of the book – and still, when Mindy Kaling courageously breaks down the experience of being horribly let down by a boy, I cried. It’s only about 5-10 minutes of the book, but, for me, it was a total deal maker. Other than that, I just found the audio book good company. If you’re feeling lonely, ambitious and thwarted, or otherwise dissatisfied, you should give a listen.” – Kelley
“I smiled a lot. Ms. Kaling is not as good as other comedians at reading her own writing, but somehow, that seemed appropriate. She still had a great comic appeal, and she seems sometimes to tell a joke while not telling a joke at all. Since I listened to this on my commute into work and sometimes while exercising, I sometimes felt a sense of relief and calmness throughout my body after listening to her which I appreciate. Some chapters I listened to multiple times!” – Nadine
“I gave 3 for story because she is quite superficial and materialistic, so you’ll find those themes running through the entire thing. It’s funny, especially if you’re being light-hearted about it, but it’s not the kind of story that keeps you thinking and expands you as a person. The story itself is pretty forgettable, but it was very fun and enjoyable while it lasted. I’m assuming that was her goal.” – Lisa
“The content of this book is fairly unoriginal – concerns about weight, stories about not fitting in as a child, some stories about writing for The Office and Saturday Night Live. In terms of content and performance, Tine Fey’s Bossypants is much more interesting. Yet Mindy is funny and she does a nice job of reading the book. If you think she is funny, you will probably enjoy listening to this book, but won’t be blown away by it.” – Alexa
