Mr. Mercedes Audio Book Summary:

During the cold hours of daybreak in a Midwestern city, people are gathering at a job fair hoping to find a livelihood. What could have been a day filled with hope turns into a nightmare as a lone car plws through the crowd without rhyme or reason. The reportedly stolen Mercedes car runs over the shocked crowd, killing eight people and wounding fifteen more. What is worse, the killer escapes leaving a trail of broken lives in his wake.

A few months after the tragedy, Bill Hodges, a retired cop is still haunted by the memories of that fateful day that changed the lives of everyone in that town. He is shaken from his long state of stupor when a letter arrives to his doorsteps from someone who claims to be the one driving the Mercedes. The writer claims that he has another plan in place and that this will take more lives. Bill Hodges is given one last chance to stop the crazed madman and this time, it is all or nothing.

Mr. Mercedes is a classic tale between the never ending battle between good and evil and gives listeners a glimpse into the mind of a killer who can barely be described as human.

One reason to listen:

Mr. Mercedes is a chilling and nail biting story of a mad killer and a group of unlikely people who must stop him from enacting his plans with time running out.

Reactions:

“If you enjoyed “Shawshank” and “Stand by Me” etc. this book will make you happy. 11/22/63 was good, but still used the supernatural to move the story, here it’s just people. I think King is at his best when he uses the characters that always feel real.” – Charlotte Raines

“This was a great novel that is much easier to read than many of Stephen King’s earlier works. It will definitely not be a disappointment for fans who are open to Kin’s expanding range of finding new, and more 21st century ways to keep us horrified, entertained, and guessing. I definitely recommend this to all King fans and those who may be new to his books.” – Mathlete

“King negates a heavy hand for an authentic, subtly crafted story. Mr. Mercedes offers dual perspective, enabling a more interesting plot development for King’s group of unlikely heroes. A fascinating adventure!” – John

“Not King’s best, but still a good read. He never disappoints.” – Timothy Donovan

“Enjoyed, but felt this tale was a little short of the quality I have come to expect from Mr King. I’m currently half way through Revival and would give 5 stars already for his efforts with this.” – Graham Surman
