My Early Life Audio Book Summary:
My Early Life is a touching and vivid look into the young beginnings of a man who would later rally a whole country behind him. Winston Churchill as a child already appears to be headed for something larger than most children his age. His thirst for excitement and adventure brought him into the military as a soldier and war correspondent. There he was sent to various countries such as India, Cuba, in Sudan wherein he fought in the Battle of Omdurman and in South Africa. Winston Churchill delivers a very inspiring recollection of the battles he fought in Sudan and how it helped shaped his personality. In South Africa, where he was taken prisoners by the Boers, Winston Churchill recounts his dangerous escape. Once he returned home though he started on the path of a building political career. It is a move that will affect the future of his beloved country and a career that will put him front and center of the parliament in the future.
This memoir was first published in 1930, a time when Churchill still has not tackled the most difficult and trying times of his life. Churchill paints an exciting young life filled with adventure and adventure seems to welcome him. It shows how one of the most influential Englishman became who he was and showed that mettle has to be tested for it to be strong.
One reason to listen:
Winston Churchill was mostly known for his part in one of the most brutal war in history, this memoir shows who he was before and gives listeners better understanding of how he became who he was later in life.

Reactions:
“He has the ability to make even the very dullest facts interesting, and even adventuresome; whether he is describing a polo match or one of him many “close calls” in war. His amazing writing abilities and style are like a refreshing drink of water compared to many of today’s authors.” – Amazon Customer

“It is a story of his coming of age at the turn of the 18th century and is one of those books that all bold adventurous men should perhaps read at some time during their lives. A fantastic eye witness account of the British empire and the ‘larger than life’ people behind it.” – Shufti Clivey22

“An account of Winston’s first 30 years, before he came to political office. Wonderfully written, occasional insights into his personality, brilliant evocation of life in upper-class England before World War I.” – John J. Hurt

“Sometimes the sentiments in the book appear bloodthirsty or imperialistic, but you have to realize that at least part of the time Churchill is writing satirically, reflecting common values which you suspect he did not always share himself. When he is sincerely expressing his own serious ideals it is usually easy to detect.” – Andrew Johnston

“The way Churchill describes his daring escape from the Boers is really gripping, it was an excellent book, but sometimes it is a bit verbose and Churchill losses me, but besides that I would definitely recommend this book.” – Amazon Customer
