Audio book Summary:

Outlander is one of the better new fantasy/romance novels out there today. It mixes imaginative storytelling and interjecting fictional history into its plot. Outlander’s story revolves around the character of Claire Randall, a former combat nurse during World War 2. As the war steadily closes around the world in 1945, Claire Randall and her husband decided to go on a second honeymoon. But during their joyful reunion Claire Randall accidentally stumbled upon a mysterious stone which then transports her through time wherein she found herself once again in a war-torn land. Except she now finds herself in 1743 Scotland where rival clans constantly battle each other. Will Claire Randall ever find her way back to her own time or will she end up trapped in an unknown land forever?

One reason to listen:

Davina Porter’s incredible narration.

Reactions:

“The idea of a woman going back in time to Scotland in the 1700’s and falling in love with a highlander sounds kind of ridiculous, right? Well I was wrong, it was fantastic!” Katelyn

“I’m a 3rd year doctoral student, overwhelmed with work and obligations, and quite literally the only thing that gets me excited about my 45-mile commute to school each morning is Davina Porter’s amazing voice bringing to life Diane Gabaldon’s epic adventure/romance story.” Melissa

“After exhausting my credits for the month, I grudgingly started Outlander and I am so happy I did! Oh my goodness! I could not believe how much I loved the book. I was drawn into this amazing story and the lives of all the characters. Diana Gabaldon paints a wonderful picture and Davina Porter is a fabulous narrator. I love that you know who is speaking before she even tells you.” Chandra

“The reader is excellent, and the characters have depth and realism during the non-Fabio moments. The author takes pains to be historically accurate, and if one has visiting Scotland, the descriptions are enjoyable and vivid.” Robert

“Remember though, this is a romantic novel with some/lots of sex (though having made it through the sex scenes in Altered Carbon, this is pretty “romantic” sex) – so if you’re looking for sci/fi or fantasy, you will be disappointed in this.”Crazybatcow

“I don’t think I can listen any more! I keep waiting for something to happen (instead of sex, sex, sex, which is becoming annoying).” Kelli
