Reminiscences of Captain Gronow by Rees Howell Gronow – A free audiobook

Narrated by Ruth Golding

This is a free audiobook of the memoir written by Rees Howell Gronow about his time during the Peninsula War and the Battle of Waterloo. It also talks about the society and various personalities of Regency Lonodon as well as life in the 19th century Paris. Gronow was Grenadier Guard officer, an unsuccessful parliamentarian and a dandy.

Captain Gronow actually shows some characteristics that if he was living today would be viewed as unacceptable but this is still an interesting memoir. It shows the horrors of war in an unflinching way as well as the life of high society and the excess they partake in and shows how the high society appears to be living within their own world.

This free audiobook is narrated by the talented Ruth Golding. Her work, as always, feels professional and will make you feel as if you are listening to a recording of BBC.
