One of the best and as well as one of the first entrants of travel literature, Sailing Alone Around the World by Joshua Slocum, is the true account of the first man to sail around the world alone using a small boat. Joshua Slocum personally built an 11.2 meter fishing boat with his bare hands that he named The Spray. His adventure began on April 24, 1895 when he set sail from Boston, Massachusetts. After a little over three years Joshua Slocum returned to Newport, Rhode on June 2, 1989. He had successfully circled the world with a total distance of 46,000 miles or 74,000km sailed.

In 1899 he published a book that chronicles his globetrotting adventure in the seas. It has since became one of the greatest travel literatures of all time and is now available in audiobook form, free to download and is read by Alan Chant.
