This is the free audiobook edition of Thomas Hardy’s controversial 1891 novel, “Tess of the d’Urbervilles”. During its initial run, this novel was heavily censored and was released in serialized form due to the controversial nature of its story centering on sexual issues that was still considered taboo during Hardy’s time. The original and uncensored novel is on display at the British Library and is shown to be titled “Daughter of the d’Urvervilles.”
The story revolves around the titular character Tess as she faces several hardships in life and her journey to overcome each obstacle that has been put in front of her. Tess’ relationship with the abusive Alec is the focal point of her misery which has caused her so much grief throughout the story. Will she be able to gather the courage to put a stop to Alec’s abusive behavior or will her life be a collage of pain and sorrow till the bitter end?
