The Ambassadors is a novel written by Henry James and is considered by many, including himself, to be his best work. This is the free audiobook edition of this wonderful classic that focuses on Henry James’ favourite topic of discussion, Americans living in a foreign land and having an eye opening experience not only about other people’s culture but also the world and life itself.

The story revolves around Lambert Strether, an editor of a literary magazine in the small quiet town of Woollett, Massachusetts. Strether gets asked by a patron, one Mrs. Newsome, to go to Europe and bring home her son Chadwick. Mrs. Newsome believes that her son is enjoying his time in Paris a bit too much that it could have dire repercussions on his future. As Strether arrives in Paris, he learns that even in his ripe old age there are still things he could learn about life. But he also comes with armed with enough experience to know that beneath all the beauty of the world lays a darker shade that should not be taken lightly. Strether and Chadwick both learn from their stay in a foreign land and it is up to them where this newfound experience and knowledge should take them.

The Ambassador is narrated by Nicholas Clifford and does so with a sophistication and sense of awe that perfectly captures the character of Lambert Strether. This is an excellent free audiobook.
