The Glassblower: The Glassblower Trilogy, Book 1 Audio Book Summary:

In the quiet and rustic village of Lauscha, Germany, tradition has not changed for centuries. The craft that the people in this village have perfected has been one of their sole means of trade. Glassblowers, as they are called. Men blow the glass while the women decorate and pack it. However, one night will change everything for three sisters. As their father, Joost Steinmann, passes away one cold September night, the sisters must learn to fend for themselves.

Johanna, is practical and immediately looked for available work in order to help put food on their table. Ruth follows her heart and looks to catch the eye of a young handsome villager that she fell in love with a long time ago. However, it is Marie that appears to be interested in picking up what their father left, glassblowing. It has always been the men that become glassblowers and so it would be an uphill battle for Marie to earn the respect and recognition of the townspeople.

The brave sisters must work together to thrive but they must do so independently while also staying true to what their hearts desire.

One reason to listen:

The Glassblower is a touching story of love, family and independence. Amazingly read by Kristin Watson Heintz, this will be a fine audiobook to listen through the night.

Reactions:

“Beautifully written and well-researched, Petra Durst-Benning painted a sweeping portrait of the fascinating characters that populated the book as well as the profession which they are involved in. The author brilliantly crafted a powerful story of women’s emancipation, the ideals and aspiration that is burning within each individual even within the confines of a hopeless situation and how one can be happy and content in one’s condition if one’s heart is in it.” – The Greatreads

“The Glassblower is not the type of book I usually read. I selected it from Kindle First because the premise of the story was interesting, but I really did not expect to be drawn into the book ad I was. I could not put it down. The descriptions of life in 1800s Germany and of young women trying to make a place for themselves in a profession dominated by men were so realistic I was able to form a mental image of the village, the characters. I hope to read other nooks by this author and will definitely recommend it.” – D.L.Lawrence

“I would highly recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys historical fiction, or has any interest in German culture. The art of glassblowing was clearly thoroughly research by the author, and it was interesting to read about this underappreciated craft. I will most certainly be reading the next two installments of this saga!” – Rachael

“The plot and story in general are interesting, thus the two stars, but the writing is wooden. Don’t know if that is the translation or the original text, but unless you have a deep interest in artisanship/ art (which I do) you really don’t need to read this book, in my opinion.” – MTZRTR

“Thought “The Glassblower” was an okay book. The historical setting was interesting. However, the story line and characters were extremely predictable and contrite. I would not necessarily recommend this book.” – Phyllis Wilkinson
