The Invasion of the Body Snatchers Audio Book Summary:

In the rural and quiet town of Mill Valley, California, during a rather peaceful fall evening, Dr. Miles Bennell stumbles upon a horrifying discovery that could very well bring humanity to its knees without even a warning. Dr. Bennell figured something was off with some of his neighbors but when more and more people, including friends, families and even the woman he loves started to exhibit these changes. Now, almost everyone in his town has turned into cold, emotionless versions of their former selves and no one seems to know why. It is up to Dr. Miles Bennell to find out just what is happening before he himself changes.

This is 1955 classic science fiction novel filled with suspense and injected with a large dose of paranoia that will keep you guessing who to trust. The narrator of this audiobook is actor-director Kristoffer Tabori who is the son of Don Seagel, the man who directed the classic 1956 adaptation of the film that has been praised as one of the top 100 greatest films of all time.

One reason to listen:

This is an extremely relevant memoir about the unfair persecution of a man that did nothing wrong except being honest with himself. This is a pivotal biography that puts the spotlight on a subject that is still a sensitive issue today.

Reactions:

“As stated this isn’t longest horror novel ever and there was no need for it to have been. Finney uses the perfect amount of words to tell his open ended tale of alien takeover elegently and with such an influx of paranoia in the text I reflected upone completion “they sure don’t write them like that anymore but I wish they did.”” – Paul Mason

“This is a brilliant suspense thriller from the 1950s. I listened to the audiobook performed by Kristoffer Tabori, published by Blackstone Audio [and available here under the “Audio CD” edition]. Tabori was the perfect narrator: he really made the story come alive.” – David Evans

“Be advised, the book bears little resemblance to the ‘modern’ movie version with Donald Sutherland. That makes reading the book more worthwhile. Give it a try.” – Sheila Bacon

“I enjoyed Kristoffer Tabori’s narration of The Invasion of the Body Snatchers. He has a rich, warm voice that is very pleasant to listen to, and he actually reminded me a little of George Guidall. Tabori also was the voice of the narrator, Miles, in the 1976 audio dramatization of the novel.” – Steven Brandt

“If you’ve heard of the book because it was groundbreaking for its time and if you don’t mind some of the usual flaws of 1950s science fiction (genre-ignorant characters and sometimes very slow pacing) then you may well enjoy this book.” – Amazon Customer
