The New Jerusalem by G. K. Chesterton – A free audiobook
Narrated by Ray Clare
The New Jerusalem is a book written by British writer GK Chesterton during his travels across Europe to Palestine in the 1920’s just after the World War 1. It is cited as a sort of philosophical travelogue that chronicles the changes happening in the Middle East during the time.
Read by Ray Clare, The New Jerusalem paints a vivid picture of Jerusalem after it has been liberated from the Turks. Chesterton definitely has an eye for detail as he describes every bit of the scenery in beautiful detail that gives listeners/readers a glimpse of the beauty within New Jerusalem.
The book also included interviews with some of the most prominent people in Palestine during the time. GK Chesterton includes some personal views within his book that should be kept in mind by listeners as a frame of mind during the time as not to be offended.
This audiobook offers a glimpse into Palestine during a time when it was largely overlooked as the world just survived the first Great War. New Jerusalem offers a peek within the walls of this highly religious country in a time when it showed promise to rise up back to the once great society it was.
