The Revenant Audio Book Summary:
This audiobook is based on the true story that transpired within the Rocky Mountains during the 1800’s. It is a tale of revenge and is soon to be released as a motion picture starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
The story follows a group of fur hunters that are working for the Rocky Mountain Fur Company. The men are led by Hugh Glass who is a highly respected leader and has years of experience traversing the brutal terrain of the Rocky Mountains and is an expert tracker.
But after a scouting mission goes array and Glass is confronted by grizzly bear that mauls and injures him to the brink of death. His men not willing to leave him or simply put him out of his misery he was left with two men to guard him while the others look for help. But he was left on his own as the two men ran away fearing an imminent attack from the Indians. They stripped him of his belongings only leaving him with his rifle and a hatchet.
As Glass watches helplessly as he is left to die by his own men he is consumed by anger and a thirst for revenge. A desire that fuelled his beaten and broken body to crawl out of his open grave and embark on a 3,000 mile journey to hunt down those who left him behind.
The Revenant tells the tale of a man consumed by revenge to the point that it is the only thing that pushes him onward and how such desires is a double edged sword not only harmful to the ones it is targeting but also to the person holding this poisonous human thirst.
One reason to listen:
This is a classic tale of revenge and the will of one man to survive against all the odds to exact it upon those who he believes wronged him. This is also based around true events which make it even more tantalizing to listen to.

Reactions:
“Punke’s knowledge and visceral prose make for story telling at its finest. If you enjoy films like JEREMIAH JOHNSON and books like UNDAUNTED COURAGE or CROW KILLER, I believe you will find THE REVENANT to be a splendid read that is well worth your time…” – J.K. Grice

“It starts very strong but I was left disappointed with the ending. IT builds and builds and just doesn’t deliver. I think this would have been much better had there been more direct conflict between Glass and the ones who abandoned him.” – Jordan Vail
