The Treasure is a short novel which was written by Nobel Prize in Literature winner Selma Lagerlof. This free audiobook edition of the classic story is read by Lars Rolander. The story is set in Bohuslaen, located on the West coast of Sweden. During the 16th century, Herr Arne and all members of his household is found brutally murdered and his treasure stolen.
One survivor was found in all this carnage, Elsalill, the now orphaned foster daughter. It now lies on her fragile shoulders to find the culprits of this heinous crime. At first, she is fueled by her need for revenge but after falling in love with one of the murderers, her mission has become more complicated.
She must choose between love and her personal quest for justice as time is steadily ticking away. In her quest for vengeance she must commit to the ultimate sacrifice and betray the man she has learned to love.
