After being rendered penniless by her scheming husband, Julia Bishop is desperately looking for a fresh start. This chance at a new beginning came in the form of a stranger who one day appeared at her doorstep. The man offered her a unique position as being the caretaker to her mother. Thing is, her mother’s name is Amaris Sinclair, a horror novelist who Julia always looked up to and a person everyone in the world believed to be dead.

As she arrives at the sprawling Sinclair estate on Lake Superior, she quickly suspects that this job maybe too good to be true. As she discovers more about Amaris’ past and the reasons why she chose to abandon her illustrious career she slowly realizes strange similarities and connections to herself and the eccentric writer. Was she randomly chosen for this job or does the walls within Havenwood harbor dark secrets that directly pertain to her?

Reactions:

“I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a slow, suspenseful tale. The author would tell you just enough, and then leave you hanging until the background story is picked up again, which kept my interest.” – Judy

“The narrator did an excellent job with the accents portrayed in the book. I’m now looking for books narrated by her just because I know she does such a fantastic job at it.” – Ruby

“It was a little bit predictable, and it could have been more intense. I got a good feeling about the whole thing, but it was lacking something… It could have been more engaging, and pack more danger! Still a great listen though.” – Mariah QH

“Xe Sands’ voice is a salty, whisper …She is an acquired taste, at first I wasn’t sure I liked her. Sometimes at first I had a hard time hearing or understanding some of her words. I chose this book because of her. Now I look for books she has narrated.” – Laurel Olivia
