Under the Greenwood Tree by Thomas Hardy – A free audiobook
Narrated by Rachel Lintern
Under the Greenwood Tree tells the story of the Quire and its member, Dick Dewy. The Quire is a group of musicians who perform at local church. The story of Dick Dewy will come at a crossroads when he falls in love with the new school mistress named Fancy Day. How will this affect both of their lives?
Another part of the story is the struggle between the Quire and the local vicar, Parson Maybold, who install a new church organ. This struggle between tradition and technology during the Victorian era reflects the times during the turn of the century. What will survive? Traditional ways or the advancement of technology or maybe we can find a middle ground between the two.
