Understood Betsy by Dorothy Canfield Fisher – A free audiobook
Narrated by Lee Ann Howlett
This is the free audiobook edition of the 1916 children’s novel Understood Betsy written by Dorothy Canfield Fisher. Understood Betsy is the story of Elizabeth Ann, a 9 year old girl who gets orphaned at a young age and lived a rather comfortable and sheltered life with her aunt Harriet and cousin Frances. Elizabeth Ann lived with her aunt and cousin until she was then sent to live with her mother’s family in a rural town farm house, the Putneys.
Her aunt and cousin do not quite trust the Putney’s when it comes to taking care of Elizabeth Ann though. They always questioned how the Putney raised their child as they put responsibilities that may seem to be too big for the young ones to understand. But without any other choice, they left Elizabeth Ann with the Putneys.
However, Elizabeth Ann thrived in this new environment and welcomed these new challenges with a positive outlook. This is not merely a tough upbringing but a lesson in life that she would make her into a stronger and more responsible adult. Her cousin Frances is intent on bringing back Elizabeth Ann home, but does the strong willed child want to go back to a sheltered life in the city?
This free audiobook is narrated by Lee Ann Howlett and does a fantastic job in giving this children’s tale new life in the form of an audiobook.
