Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail Audio Book Summary:

Wild is the awe-inspiring tale of a young woman who lost everything and through what is basically a trial by fire, finds the strength within herself to once again pick herself up with her head up high. This powerful memoir tells the story of Cheryl Strayed who in the midst of losing her mother to illness finds her family in shambles along with her marriage. During this trying time in her life, believing that she has nothing more to lose she decided to make a decision that will change her life forever. She made up her mind to travel the Pacific Crest Trail which is a 1,100 mile hike, alone and with no prior experience in this activity.

During her hike, she came face to face with death at the hands of the dangerous wild life like black bears and rattlesnakes. Not to mention extreme heat and cold that tested her mettle to breaking point. This audiobook is filled with suspense but the one element that seems constant throughout is Cheryl Strayed’s positivity and humor through it all. Wild is an amazing audiobook about a broken woman who went through a life changing adventure that left her healed and stronger than ever.

One reason to listen:

Wild is an amazing tale of survival and knowing ones true self through an extremely trying time in one’s life. Cheryl is one of the few who found her true inner strength through perseverance and came out of an ordeal with a more positive outlook. This is a must listen as it will leave you in a much brighter light.

Reactions:

“Cheryl Strayed (yes, she named herself) pens a story infinitely engrossing. Though the sadness surrounding her mother lasted a bit longer than was comfortable, or interesting, the rest of her story was funny and captivating, making a very satisfying read. That it’s a true story made it also an inspiring tale. Her creativity and endurance with ill fitting foot wear was wondrously humorous and, well, totally awesome!” – L. Calder

“Cheryl didn’t find lemons and make lemonade. Instead she found rattle snakes where she thought she’d find lemons, and adjusted to their rattle. She found torn feet where she thought she would find deliverance, and worked and worried through the pain of her toes and heels daily. Just as some readers here have done, she found things she hadn’t expected. She dealt with the disappointments. And found pain mixed with joy mixed with discovery and fun in the bargain.” – M. Sheets

“Now that the book is over, I miss Cheryl Strayed. I loved having her in my life for 13 hours. She is so honest. She shares her dirty laundry and the good times too for the world to judge. I have a ton of respect for her. I was so impressed with every aspect of this book. I laughed and cried and gasped from shock. Not everyone will love this book. It’s very raw and without the fluff and floweryness of something like “Eat, Pray, Love.” ” – Marci

“Some reviewers disliked the narrator and I admit I wasn’t crazy about her voice at first. If Cheryl was 26, I was thrown how the narrator’s gravely older voice didn’t match. However after the first 30 minutes, was hooked. Grew to think of her as the present day Cheryl recounting the past.” – Fan B14

“Previous reviews have made it clear, this is not a wilderness/adventure, it’s not Into the Wild. The title is an adjective describing the author–the book, a personal journey with the PCT being a backdrop,–the backpack “Monster”, probably a metaphor for Strayed’s emotional load. Had there been reviews when I picked this book up, I might have made a different choice, but am glad now that I stumbled upon this. It was entertaining, moving, and frank; the writing was well done; the narration interpreted nicely. ” – Melinda
