Harriet Beecher Stowe’s book is a moral story which strives to consider and even explain the dark side of humanity.The story starts when Arthur Shelby decides to raise money by selling two of his slaves in order to pay off some debts. Uncle Tom, a good and religious man, together with Harry, the young son of Eliza who is Mrs. Shelby’s maid are the two slaves in question. Although Mrs. Shelby protests about this decision, a heavy- hearted Shelby sells his two slaves.
This audio book is read by John Greenman whose voice takes you back in the past, enabling you to understand all the sufferings that the slaves had to go through. Greenman’s voice is capable of expressing sadness, happiness, rage and pain of all the characters. His powerful voice brings all the emotions and thoughts of the characters to your ears and helps you to sneak into their minds and feel their emotions. His voice is simply a perfect fit for the story.
The story and the reader make a wonderful combination that is hard to resist.
