Doctor Who: Urgent Calls (complete adventure) (Free Audio Book)

Doctor Who: Urgent Calls (complete adventure)

This was released by Big Finish Productions and was made free on May 27, 2013 in the production company’s sound cloud page. To those who are still fairly new to the Doctor Who mythos, this story is part of the Sixth Doctor story arc and is the first one to be released.

This time, the Doctor is in 1974 wherein a dangerous bio-engineered virus is spreading at an alarming rate. The virus/parasite, which wraps around the spine of its hosts, is transmitted via simple phone calls which give them quite an edge. Can the Doctor find a way to stop these dangerous parasites in time? The Urgent Call storyline is quite short but it is definitely sweet and exciting. It has a running time of just 33 minutes and 50 seconds. If you are looking for your quick fix of Doctor Who then by all means listen to this gem.

Basically, the format of this audiobook is that of a radio drama; multiple voice actors representing different characters, top-notch performance as well as ambient sound effects. Urgent Calls perfectly casted each characters and their performance clearly shows you that they are having a good time portraying their characters. Colin Baker as the Doctor is especially good as he gives new dimensions to the well-beloved character.

All in all, the Doctor Who: Urgent Calls audiobook is a short and great addition if you are a fan of Doctor Who or science fiction in general. Do not hesitate to add this to your playlist and it is even a good introduction to the Doctor Who story as well.
